Nestled into the curves of the Vermillion River, Bellwether Farm is a camp, retreat, and education center dedicated to exposing the wider community to the creation that sustains all of life. As a working farm, its life focuses on four primary activities.

Camp Nurse

Bellwether Farm Nurse Application

Bellwether Farm Summer Camp is a small weekly overnight camp centered on experiencing the divine in the natural world, food, and community. Physical wellness is just as important as spiritual and mental health at Bellwether Farm Camp. The camp nurse  ensures that campers and staff receive the proper attention during any health incidents. This includes being aware of and attentive to all medications, allergies, and any health conditions, as well as being on call for scrapes, bruises, bee stings, and any other illnesses. In addition, the camp nurse is the primary responsible person for any health incidents and emergencies. Licensure is not required, although some experience or training in the healthcare field is preferred. Working with the camp staff and counselors, the camp nurse is a vital part of the Bellwether Farm Camp community.. 


  • The camp nurse must be 21 by June 18, 2023, and pass a background check.

  • Arrival at Bellwether is Sunday, June 11 in the afternoon. Departure is July 30 in the morning. You must be on site and on call during all camp hours, which are Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon. There is no camp the week of July 2. (if you are only partially available during the camp season, please still apply and we can discuss options)

  • Pay is $2,250 for 7 weeks, and includes farm-to-table meals and lodging with air conditioning and private bedroom and bathroom adjacent to the infirmary. 

Nursing Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for safeguarding and distributing prescribed medications to all campers and counselors, and appropriate recordkeeping. . 

  • Respond to injuries and illnesses as they arise. 

  • Follow all COVID protocols, including testing. 

  • Ensure the infirmary is stocked with necessary materials and supplies. 

  • Be fully aware of all safety and emergency procedures, and execute procedures when required, including ensuring that counselors are aware of and understand all safety rules.

  • Act in a professional manner as a role model for all campers, volunteers, and fellow staff.

  • Be familiar with all information available on each group of campers, including the medical and behavior alert lists, and any other information provided by the support staff.

  • Collaborate with camp staff to communicate with parents and guardians about their camper’s health.

  • Comply with all policies and procedures as listed in the staff contract, manual, and staff orientation, including “Safe Church” policies for the protection of children and youth from abuse.

  • Attend and participate in required training and planning sessions, which include CPR and First Aid training. 

  • Other duties as assigned.
