Nestled into the curves of the Vermillion River, Bellwether Farm is a camp, retreat, and education center dedicated to exposing the wider community to the creation that sustains all of life. As a working farm, its life focuses on four primary activities.

Farm Manager

Bellwether Farm, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, seeks a skilled and mission-driven Farm Manager to lead the next chapter of its diversified agricultural operations. The successful candidate will bring both practical experience and visionary thinking to steward a vibrant farm that integrates animal husbandry, vegetable production, maple syrup production, and orchard management within a regenerative framework. Building on an established foundation of sustainable practices, the Farm Manager will enhance systems of production, deepen collaboration with the kitchen and program teams, and ensure that the farm continues to serve as a living classroom for guests of all ages. This is an opportunity to join a faith-rooted organization where ecological stewardship, community, and education come together to inspire regenerative living.

Specific Responsibilities

Farm Operations & Production

  • Plan, manage, and implement year-round production for the market garden, orchard, and diversified livestock systems.
  • Develop and maintain crop rotations, succession planting, and soil health strategies consistent with regenerative agriculture practices.
  • Oversee animal husbandry for all livestock species, ensuring humane treatment, biosecurity, and compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Manage harvest, post-harvest handling, storage, and distribution of farm products for the kitchen, farm store, and other outlets.
  • Maintain farm infrastructure, tools, and equipment in safe and working condition.

Collaboration & Integration

  • Partner with the Kitchen Manager to coordinate crop planning, harvest schedules, and inventory that support farm-to-table meals.
  • Collaborate with the Director for Program Innovation to design and deliver educational programs and farm experiences for guests, students, and campers.
  • Work with the Property Director to ensure land stewardship practices that support the farm’s ecological and aesthetic integrity.
  • Support the development of value-added enterprises including but not limited to strategic vision and implementation of sheep fleece fiber, honey bees, and maple syrup processing.

Leadership & Administration

  • Provide a ministry of hospitality to all users of Bellwether Farm.
  • Supervise and mentor farm staff, interns, and volunteers, fostering a safe, inclusive, and educational work environment.
  • Manage farm budget, track expenses, and contribute to annual planning and reporting.
  • Maintain the overall beauty and aesthetic integrity of the farm, ensuring that fields, barns, and public areas reflect Bellwether’s spirit of welcome and care for creation.
  • Ensure compliance with all diocesan, state, and federal safety and operational policies.
  • Represent Bellwether Farm’s agricultural mission in outreach efforts, tours, and community partnerships.
  • Serve as Manager on Call on a rotational basis, ensuring operational continuity and guest support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience (3–5 years preferred) managing diversified farm operations including both crops and livestock.
  • A general understanding of regenerative, sustainable, and organic farming practices.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Experience in collaborative and educational settings, experience in faith-based or mission-driven organizations preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings, as the farm season requires.
  • Physical ability to perform farm labor in various weather conditions.

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Housing provided at employer’s convenience. Three-bedroom, two bath private home.
