Founded in 2018 through the vision and support of the faith communities of the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, Bellwether Farm was created as a place of gathering, learning, and connection. Today, the farm spans more than 200 acres of forest, pasture, gardens, and food plots and serves as the centerpiece of a ~200-bed camp and retreat center.

As the 2027 season begins, the farm team is deepening its commitment to regenerative agriculture by managing for soil health and further incorporating livestock into the system. The farm includes a 1-acre cultivated food plot, heritage breed livestock (sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, and cows), a four-season greenhouse, apiary, small orchard, maple syrup operation, and composting system.

With regenerative goals in mind, the farm strives to foster connection while growing food for the dining hall, teaching kitchen, and surrounding community. Farm-based education and programming are central to the mission, and guests and campers regularly experience the farm firsthand, seeing its harvest featured in daily meals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Passion for sustainable agriculture, permaculture, animal husbandry, local food systems or community-building
• Ability to lift 50 lbs., stand for 8+ hours, and work in varied weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, wind)
• Community-minded with a passion for engaging and working with people of all ages
• Commitment of at least 17 weeks but 34 weeks is preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform fieldwork related to growing crops, including seed starting, transplanting, direct sowing, weed and pest management, soil health management, irrigation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling
• Complete daily animal care tasks such as feeding, watering, moving animals, collecting and washing eggs, cleaning enclosures, and sanitizing equipment
• Contribute to the development of regenerative systems and strategies
• Assist in creating educational materials and supporting farm-based programming
• Operate farm equipment and machinery safely
• Maintain accurate records of daily tasks and activities
• Communicate effectively with team members and participate in feedback sessions
• Support supervision and education of volunteers, guests, and program participants
• Operate with a spirit of joy and have a collaborative mindset
• Occasionally assist other departments as needed

Compensation:

This internship includes a monthly stipend. Room and board are provided, including housing in a shared 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home with kitchen, common space, and laundry. Meals are supported through a grocery stipend, farm-fresh produce and eggs, and access to the dining hall when available.
