Programming

Nestled into the curves of the Vermillion River, Bellwether Farm is a camp, retreat, and education center dedicated to exposing the wider community to the creation that sustains all of life. As a working farm, its life focuses on four primary activities.

Property Director

Bellwether Farm seeks an experienced, self-motivated Property Director to vision, dream, and maintain the Bellwether Farm physical property including buildings, grounds, farm, and forests. The Property Director will build on the success of Bellwether Farm’s first 7 years in operation to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the physical plant. Consisting of 227 acres, 55 buildings, 40 hotel-style retreat rooms, commercial kitchen, dining and meeting spaces, two greenhouses, and multiple pavilions, Bellwether Farm’s Property Director will create and ensure the operational plans and procedures to the highest standards of property upkeep, safety, efficiency, sustainability, cost effectiveness, and guest satisfaction are met.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • As a member of Bellwether Farm’s Leadership Team, provide a ministry of hospitality to all users of Bellwether Farm
  • Safely perform general cleaning and maintenance on all buildings, facilities, mechanical systems, and grounds while keeping equipment in clean, orderly, and in working conditions.
  • Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the maintenance and technical work performed
  • Lead and mentor property team, contractors, and laborers providing direction, motivation, and support to ensure project goals are met
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the property team
  • Collaborate with Farm to Table Director on field management, property goals, production, and livestock rotation
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team and Executive Director to define property strategies and long-term goals that align with the vision and mission of Bellwether Farm
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and local codes
  • Makes carpentry, electrical, mechanical, aesthetic, and plumbing repairs
  • Maintains grounds for guest use
  • Create and maintain recycling and waste elimination program meeting sustainability goals
  • Maintain paths and roads, clearing snow from facilities as needed
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities and repairs
  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local contractors and suppliers
  • Use hand tools and power tools in making repairs and maintaining grounds
  • Ensure all property and maintenance projects, initiatives, and processes are aligned with the
  • organization’s policies and objectives
  • Allocate resources effectively, including the assignment of tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the successful delivery of property projects

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, hospitality, business or a related field, or 8 years’ experience in construction, general contracting, project management, grounds maintenance, or related industry
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Experience and general knowledge of at least three of the following disciplines: carpentry, welding, mechanical systems, landscaping, building/construction, plumbing, and electrical
  • Experience operating tractors, forklifts, excavators, and other heavy machinery
  • Proven track record of managing capital expenditure projects including budgeting and execution
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with a customer-centric mindset
  • Additional certifications as required, including but not limited to Dismantling Racism and Safe Church, Safe Communities.
  • Proficiency in property management systems, management tools, and software programs
  • Ability to thrive and provide sustainability in a dynamic environment and lead by example with integrity, resilience, and professionalism.


Accountability:
The Property Director will report to and perform as directed by the Bellwether Farm Executive Director. The Property Director will manage all members of the Property Team. Your position, duties, and responsibilities may be modified from time to time in the sole discretion of the Bellwether Farm Executive Director.
